Gege Confirms JJK Spin-off ‘Mojuro’

The Jujutsu Kaisen fandom has been buzzing around the clock the last few weeks, and it’s no wonder why. Just a couple of days ago, the fans were basking in the news of the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Culling Game Arc teaser that will start streaming on Crunchyroll early next January of 2026. Manga readers have even more reasons to be excited—creator Gege Akutami recently revealed that his next big project would actually be a Jujutsu Kaisen spin-off manga called Mojuro.

The revelation shocked the anime and manga community together, not just because it opens up the wonderful world of sorcerers but also because it officially establishes the continuation of JJK’s legacy in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump.

Mojuro first appears in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41, publishing this weekend (September 7, 2025). The first chapter is also published at the same time on digital channels such as Viz Media’s Shonen Jump app and Shueisha’s Manga Plus service so readers from all over the globe may read it legally on its first day of release.

In contrast to Jujutsu Kaisen’s epic streak, Mojuro will be a brief, compact three-volume run. Akutami has already announced that the spin-off will last around six months, providing readers with a little but significant plunge into the next evolution of the JJK world.

This format echoes Akutami’s previous remarks that he prefers stories with clear endings and strong pacing rather than dragging them out endlessly. Fans should expect a tightly packed narrative filled with emotional weight, shocking battles, and new mythologies.

The Expected Storyline

The greatest surprise information that has been unveiled is what Mojuro’s plot will be about. Rather than going back in time and repeating history or following supporting characters, Mojuro will advance the timeline into the future of the Jujutsu Kaisen series.

The narrative of this manga will revolve around Yuta and Maki’s grandchildren name as Okkotsu Tsurugi and Okkotsu Yuuka. They will be the focus of the spin-off.

It is revealed that Yuta and Maki Zenin lived full lives, eventually passing away peacefully in old age. Their grandchildren inherit the legacy of sorcery carrying forward the values, struggles and immense responsibility that comes with being part of the Okkotsu bloodline.

This confirms what many fans had hope about Yuta and Maki’s relationship was canon, and they became the foundation of the new generation of sorcerers.

Why Mojuro Matters?

Audiences detest it when their beloved show gets over, and they worry about spin-offs that would water down or cheapen the series. Those apprehensions have been put to rest directly by Akutami. In an interview retweeted by insider Myamura (@Myamura on X, formerly Twitter), Akutami revealed:

“Serialising Jujutsu Kaisen, I had a few proposals for others’ spinoffs.”. However, since manga is a medium where things tend to go awry, I was worried about the title propagating in ways that I could not possibly prevent. When that specific offer was offered, and I considered how it would further the main story, explore more of its world, or even skip over centuries entirely, I figured if it was on the same line, then it was going to be able to open doors to the possibility of having a tremendous amount of other projects.

That is, Akutami was keen on maintaining creative freedom and ensuring that any spin-off would be serving the story and not as a cash-in. Mojuro is not just a spin-off—it’s being framed as a direct sequel within the JJK universe.

The Shocking Twist

One of the most shocking leaks from Myamura is that aliens are going to become a part of Jujutsu Kaisen’s sorcerer world. JJK universe already has cursed energy and psychological horror. Adding in aliens into the narrative will be exciting to watch. Think about it – What if curses aren’t just a creation of human anxiety but are shaped by these extraterrestrial creatures?

A Spin-off Novel by Yumeaki Hirayama

And if that’s not enough, Myamura also revealed that a spin-off light novel is coming, penned by horror writer Yumeaki Hirayama. Famous for his skills with eerie and unnerving tales, Hirayama’s inclusion implies a darker, more psychological exploration of the JJK franchise.

Thisnovel will be published along with Mojuro which would provide an extra layer of knowledge and character development for enthusiasts eager for more.

Conclusion

The launch of Mojuro makes sure that the story of Jujutsu Kaisen is far from over. By setting its scope on the next generation of the Okkotsu sorcerers, adding new and innovative content such as aliens, and shortening the run to have the biggest impact, Akutami is giving a spin-off that’s fresh yet respectful of the parent title.

As a reader of the manga or an anime viewer, this is the best time to go deeper into the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
