The wait is finally over for all the Solo Leveling fans because it is back with its highly awaited second season. Episode 1 of Season 2 aired on 4th January 2025 over all streaming platforms. The first episode itself takes us back into the action-packed journey of an E-rank hunter named Jinwoo Sung, from being a weakling to a strong character.
His hardships and sheer determination to become strongest has captivated the audiences. The first episode of this new season starts right up from where Season 1 left off. Here’s a detailed review of the first episode about new characters, plot and action sequences. So beware of spoilers.
A Quick Recap of Season 1:
Before the discussion about Season 2, it is very important to reflect upon the major events of the previous season. Jinwoo is the main protagonist of the series around which the whole story is centered. His journey started as being a lowly E-rank hunter in a world of dangerous dungeons and monsters. He was struggling for his survival in every dungeon missions. But his story takes an interesting turn after encountering an intense and life threating event which took place in a double dungeon.
He somehow managed to survive because of a mysterious system which gave him another chance of life. After completion of every task, he started leveling up and grow stronger. With his determination, hard work and patience, he succeeded in transforming himself from being the weakest hunter to one of the most powerful hunter. He is now equivalently as powerful as a S-rank hunter. He now also possesses the ability to summon shadows soldiers after winning over them. However, with the rise in his power, he is bound to face deadly threats and battles which on the other side also help him to strengthen his place as a top-tier hunter.
Jinwoo’s Insane “Glow Up”
The first episode of Season 2 begins with Jinwoo, the protagonist, waking up on his bed after receiving a phone call from his younger sister, Jinah. She asks Jinwoo to visit her school for a parent-teacher meeting. Jinwoo’s arrival in the school causes a stir because all the schoolgirls started swooning over him. Even Jinah was shocked to see his unbelievable glow up.
This moment shows his attractive charm and also reinforces just how much Jinwoo’s life has changed after his transformation. His new power is not only visible in his strength but also in his appearance. He’s a completely different person now with powerful muscles and charming personality. He’s no longer a struggling loser. He is now a powerful figure who draws attention wherever he steps.
A Strange Question
In the parent-teacher meeting , Jinwoo encounters a strange question from Jinah’s teacher which made him shocked and worried. She asked if he would he allow his sister to become a hunter if she happen to be awakened. His responses the teacher with a straight “No.”
This conversation reflects that even after gaininig immense strength, he doesn’t want his sister to face the same dangerous world in which he is currently living. He wants her to be safe. Jinwoo has a protective brother’s instincts which are quite strong.
A New Antagonist:
Hwang Dongsoo who is the brother of Hwang Dongsuk, has arrived to Japan from America. In the first season, Jinwoo beheaded and killed Hwang Dongsuk after a dramatic battle in order to complete his task. Now his elder brother, Hwang Dongsoo is all set to take the revenge for his younger brother’s death. His ultimate motive is to take down Jinwoo. In Season 2, he will act as one of the primary antagonists.
Dongsoo’s arrival will surely add more troubles and high stake drama in Jiwoo’s life. Dongsoo seems to be a cunning, strategic and strong opponent. His actions and plans to quench his thirst for revenge will be exciting for the fans to watch.
Han Song Yi In Season 2:
Han Song Yi is a fellow hunter of Jinwoo with the same rank as him. She first appeared in Season 1. Her relationship with Jinwoo wasn’t that important or highlighted in the first season. However, her reappearance in the second season maybe a hint for her larger role in the upcoming episodes. She has entered the red gate with Jinwoo. Maybe their relationship will become deepened in future arcs.
A New Character:
A new character named Kim Chul has entered in the season 2. He is an A-rank hunter and tanker. He possesses powerful combat skills. His role as a tanker makes him an essential part of any hunting team. However, he didn’t seem to be welcoming and kind towards our protagonist. His further interactions with Jinwoo and other characters will be worth noticing in the next episode.
The Red Gate – A Dangerous New Dungeon:
The most exciting part of the released episode 1 is the newly discovered Red Gate. Jinwoo and others are trapped in the red gate. It is quite different from the regular gates which are still manageable with easy reinforcement of backup. But it’s not the same for red gate. After entering the red gate, one loses all communication with the outside world. The only way to escape is by defeating the boss inside. This makes it far more dangerous type of dungeon with high-stakes situation for the hunters as they must face powerful monsters without any backup.
Jinwoo and others encountered with scary creatures such as Ice Slayers and Ice Bears. These enemies are much more stronger and terrifying than the monsters found in regular gates. This simply indicates that inside the Red Gate, there’s a noticeable raise in danger level. The environment itself is quite chilling with ice-cold landscape which is making the overall situation more dreadful.

Fans witnessed Jinwoo summoning his shadow soldiers and Igris for the first time. They helped him in fighting against ice bears. This marks a major achievement for Jinwoo’s arising journey because it adds a new dimension to his fighting style.
The epic showdown between Igris and the boss Ice Bear is the highlight of the episode. Igris’ combat skills are truly incredible. Watching him effortlessly take down the monstrous foe is a treat for fans. Even Jinwoo was shocked and amazed by Igris’ effectiveness in battle.
